Islam distinguishes between different types of love. Natural love—such as affection for parents, spouses, children, or good food—is healthy and encouraged, provided it operates within the boundaries set by God.

In a famous Hadith Qudsi, Allah says: "My servant does not draw near to Me with anything more loved by Me than the obligatory duties." If you love Allah, the five prayers come before sleep. Hijab comes before fashion. Halal income comes before convenience.

When we love the creation like we should love Allah, we subject ourselves to inevitable heartbreak. Creation is inherently flawed, temporary, and limited. Only the Creator is flawless, eternal, and limitless.

"When those who were followed will disown those who followed (them), and they will see the punishment, and all ties will be cut off with them. And those who followed will say, 'If only we had another chance to disown them as they have disowned us.'" This is Ashaddu Hubban in action

Contemplating Allah's deep mercy, protection, and continuous provisions naturally stirs a deep sense of gratitude and love within the human soul.

As Imam al-Qurtubi wrote in his Tafsir : “The verse proves that love for Allah is the foundation of faith. If a person loves anything else as much as Allah, or even slightly less than Allah, but acts upon that love in disobedience to Allah, they have committed Shirk (polytheism) in love.”
